The challenge this week was leading lines, and involved using lines in the photograph to draw the eyes of the viewer to a specific area in the photo. For example, leading lines could be roads winding their way into the image, or structural elements such as the railings of an escalator drawing the eye towards a figure. Check out Photography Life’s article on Creating and Using Leading Lines for more information on incorporating leading lines in your photographs.
Below are a few of my favourite photos from this week’s challenge:
This week’s photos were taken during a recent night photography shoot in Calgary with Meetup group Explore.Capture.Repeat. If you are not already a member, I highly recommend joining Meetup.com – it is a great way to meet other people interested in the same hobbies as you. It’s an enormous group, with over 30 million members in over 182 countries, and a wide variety of different hobbies/topics. I have enjoyed many great hikes with some of the local hiking groups, and now there are several fantastic photography Meetup groups in my city. It’s especially nice if you would like some company while walking around a city at night with expensive camera gear – safety in numbers 😉 Plus you can inspire each other and share photography tips. Some of the groups even have photographers who offer courses on specific areas of photography. Explore.Capture.Repeat offers several courses on night photography, and I am part of another group where the photographer offers portrait courses with models.
